Getting Started with Phonics Hero

The first time your child plays

Be ready to help out with the navigation of the site. When you start any new activity there is a learning curve; your child will need to understand how to navigate the site, what to do during a game and they will need help if they get stuck. It is worth being available for the first level.

Equipment

  1. Headphones are essential. It is very difficult to discriminate between the sounds without them
  2. Test the volume of the headphones; make sure they are not too loud for a child’s sensitive hearing
  3. Check to see that your child is comfortable with how a mouse works. Don’t worry if not, it’s a skill they quickly pick-up with a little practice. You might want to consider purchasing a child’s mouse; they are smaller for their little hands
  4. Some newer parts of Phonics Hero have been developed using the latest HTML5 technology. These parts will not function correctly in Internet Explorer 8. You’ll need to upgrade to Internet Explorer 9+, Chrome or Firefox to play Part 3 games.
